NETA’s Yoga Foundations Certification

Date:  Saturday-Sunday, October 6-7 2018

Time: 8:00 AM-6:00 PM each day

Cost:  $299 for USA students and members of the USA Student Recreation Center, $349 for the general public if registered by September 6.  Price goes up to $349/$399 after that date.  USA students and Rec Center members should contact sarahrentz@southalabama.edu for the discounted price.

Description: This intensive, two-day Yoga Foundations workshop provides hands-on experience in teaching beginner yoga formats through a breakdown of 20 poses focused on alignment, safety, variations and breathing techniques. In addition to the basics of class formatting, you’ll discuss yoga history through exploration of the 8 limbs, learn the anatomy and physiology of the nervous and respiratory systems, as well as discover ways to encourage and motivate your participants through verbal refinements and inclusive cuing. This certification will provide two sample beginning yoga classes as well as time for practice under the supervision of an experienced yoga teacher.​​ ​

NETA Group Exercise Certification

Time: 8:00 AM-6:00 PM

Description: Created for those interested primarily in leading exercise in a group setting, NETA’s Group Exercise Instructor Certification is one of only three in America that have earned NCCA accreditation. Study in advance using NETA’s recommended study materials, and then attend NETA’s 1-Day live Group Exercise Instructor Certification Review Workshop and exam on Saturday, October 27 at the USA Student Recreation Center.

Description: Power is needed in various sports and activities, and the medicine ball is the perfect power training tool! In this workshop, you’ll learn a wide variety of medicine ball exercises and strategies to incorporate medicine balls into any group exercise class, small group training session, or one-on-one with clients. Participants will learn to easily develop workouts that balance strength, and power!

Description: Combining a rider’s rating of perceived exertion (RPE) with heart rate training helps strengthen the mind/body connection during exercise. You will learn about the history and science behind the RPE scale, ways to use and apply the RPE scale in your classes, and how to complement heart rate training with RPE.
