Teaching Philosophy and Motivation
The development of problem-solving skills by application of critical thinking is a vital and essential component of the chemistry curriculum. Well prepared students generally perform better and earn superior achievable benefits from laboratory courses, however pre-laboratory preparation accomplished under threat of consequences can be strenuous. A student’s motivation can be boosted through an activity with inherent satisfaction rather than for some separable consequence. As one such activity, the gradual introduction of media-based pre-laboratory preparation since 2016 has generally been recognized as beneficial to student’s intrinsic motivation.
