University Counseling and Wellness Center

Guide to Services

University Counseling and Wellness Center (UCWC), a department in the Division of Student Affairs, provides mental health services to the University of South Alabama's undergraduate and graduate student community.

Our mission is to provide high quality counseling, outreach and consultative services to the University community. We strive to facilitate the academic, emotional, social, and career development of students. Our primary commitment is to ensure that each student is connected with the best-fitting University or community resources to meet their needs.

UCWC provides a variety of counseling services, including group counseling, individual counseling, workshops & outreach services. UCWC takes a goal-focused and collaborative approach to mental health services with our students and campus community. We strive to empower USA students to learn the skills they need to address and manage their mental health concerns so that they can succeed personally and academically during their time at USA and beyond.

Enrolled USA students are eligible for our services.

UCWC does not provide assessments, recommendations, or documentation for Emotional Support Animals (ESAs). Students seeking ESA documentation should consult an external licensed healthcare provider.

What is a Consultation?

An initial consultation is not a counseling session; it is a structured 20-30 minute meeting with one of our counselors to gather information about your situation and what UCWC services would best fit your needs. The purpose of the initial consultation is to gain a thorough understanding of what brings you to the counseling center, identify your goals, discuss options and develop a plan which may include individual counseling, group counseling, a referral to campus or community resources or self-help resources.

Please note: Consultation is a confidential service and what you share with us will remain confidential.
