Our college is uniquely positioned to be a force for excellence, not just within Alabama, but on a national stage. My vision for CEPS is rooted in a simple but powerful commitment: we must be leading today through our actions, research, and community, so that we are truly impacting tomorrow for the students and professionals we serve


A Culture of Collegiality and Support

To lead effectively today, we must foster an environment of hospitality and collaboration. One of the most consistent pieces of feedback I receive from faculty candidates is the deep sense of collegiality they feel here. By building a supportive culture, whether through celebrating our achievements or coming together as a community at Mitchell Center games, we create the foundation necessary for impacting tomorrow as a unified college.

Excellence in Research and Pedagogical Practice

Leading today requires us to stay at the forefront of our fields. From our innovative Teacher Education initiatives to our annual Research Showcase, we are dedicated to academic rigor and the pursuit of new knowledge. My own commitment to the field, including my role as Editor-in-Chief of Mathematics Teacher: Learning and Teaching PK-12, informs my belief that our scholarly work is the primary vehicle for impacting tomorrow’s classrooms and professional environments.

Innovation and Operational Efficiency

We cannot impact the future if we do not refine how we operate in the present. I am focused on leading today by modernizing our college’s financial processes, increasing our operational efficiency, and moving toward streamlined workflows. These improvements are not just about administration; they ensure that our resources are always directed toward student success and faculty development, effectively impacting tomorrow for the next generation of Jaguars.

I am honored to serve as your Dean and look forward to all the ways we will continue leading today and impacting tomorrow together.

Dean Barlow is a dedicated leader in education and a prominent voice in mathematics pedagogy. Her current leadership roles include:

  • Editor-in-Chief, Mathematics Teacher: Learning and Teaching PK-12 (MTLT) for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
  • Board Member-at-Large, Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators of Alabama.
  • Statewide Mathematics Contest Coordinator, Alabama Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
