University of South Alabama Career Services welcomes opportunities to partner with companies and organizations through our Cooperative Education (Co-op) and Internship Program. Our Co-op & Internship program offers multiple work plans to accommodate the needs of our employer partners.
Cooperative Education and Internship Program - Internships
The Career Services Internship program allows students to participate in a paid, part-time or full-time work experience that complements the student’s major or field of study. For program eligibility, students must meet specific criteria including, the completion of 12 credit hours and maintaining an institutional GPA of 2.0 or higher. The student, employer, and the university work collaboratively to structure the internship work plan. To post your paid internship position, please access the Handshake career management system or contact our office.
Academic Credit Internships
Many programs at USA offer internship opportunities for academic credit. Career Services will post these for-credit internships through Handshake. Academic credit internships ultimately require screening from the academic college/department for consideration as to whether the position meets the standards for course credit.
To explore academic credit internship options for your business or non-profit organization, please contact Natalie Weston, Co-op/Intern Coordinator, at (251) 460-6197 to be connected with the appropriate faculty member in the academic department.
'For-profit' employers are encouraged to review the Department of Labor's Fact Sheet regarding Internship Programs under the Fair Labor Standards Act. The DOL's fact sheet provides general information on the 6-point test to determine if 'for-profit' employers may provide internships that are unpaid.
Academic Department Contacts
