Human Subjects

University policy requires that all research involving human subjects be reviewed and approved by the USA Institutional Review Board (IRB) before research activities begin. The IRB is a single part of a larger Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) at the University of South Alabama. The USA HRPP is a collaborative network of institutional officials, researchers, faculty, staff, students, and members from the community whose aim is to support ethically and scientifically sound research.

The University of South Alabama facilitates human subjects research through two IRB committees: The Biomedical and the EBR (Educational and Behavioral Research) committees. To view upcoming submission deadlines and meeting dates for both IRB reviewing boards, please view the IRB Calendar provided on the right-hand panel of this page.
