Scope

The Office of Research Compliance and Assurance works with University research oversight committees, boards and offices responsible for specific components of research compliance, including the Institutional Review Board, Institutional Biosafety, Institutional Animal Care and Use and Standards in the Conduct of Research Committees to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements related to research activity. The office is responsible for monitoring regulatory changes and recommending institutional responses to ensure compliance, and the oversees development and implementation of policies, procedures, programs and educational activities which satisfy federal, state and institutional regulations governing the conduct of research.

Mission Statement

The mission of the office is to ensure University compliance with federal, state and local regulations with regard to research, and the commitment of the research community to ethical and responsible research involving human subjects, animal care and use, biosafety and responsible conduct of research. Research Compliance Services provides direction and development of regulatory compliance issues related to institutional research by complying with all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and policies by:

  • Developing and maintaining a system of compliance that includes activity review and approval, monitoring, and reporting;
  • Performing compliance assurance audits as needed, conducts monthly IRB study reviews;
  • Providing educational/instructional programs for faculty, staff, and students so that they may better meet compliance requirements;
  • Providing a communications link between agencies in order to promote compliance and submitting assurances, reports and other required information to appropriate government agencies.
